Soil Investigation For Construction Purpose

In the world of civil engineering, soil investigation aims to obtain
the data necessary for planning soil foundation. The foundation of a
building located within the soil is often called sub-structure, so the
soil is very important investigation. Another purpose of soil
investigation is to determine the soil bearing capacity, determine the
type and depth of the foundation, knowing the depth of the
groundwater, predict the magnitude of the losses, and so forth.
Depending on the construction to be built on the land.

Soil investigations can be done in various ways, for example by
digging a test hole, drilling and others. Usually the soil to be
tested will be brought to the laboratory, but some are doing testing
on the ground. Depending on the type of testing will be done and
needs.

Ground investigation usually stands on 3 (three) stages, including
drilling or digging test holes, soil sampling, and testing of soil
samples. Tests were conducted on disturbed soil (disturbed samples)
and the soil is not disturbed (undisturbed samples). Soil samples
taken for testing is the native soil, that is, free from litter and
roots of plants.

Accuracy in testing the soil is very necessary. Especially in
determining the groundwater, because the data obtained is affecting
the planning foundation, and can cause errors in analyzing the
stability of the soil.

Some ways that can be done for soil investigation is to test pit
(Test-pit), Drill hand (Hand Auger), Drill Wash (Wash Boring),
Investigation by washing (Wash Probing), and Drill Play (Rotary
Drill).

The investigation aims to test holes determines the soil conditions
carefully. This method allows to identify the land directly, clearly
knowing the density and soil water conditions in the field. Testing is
usually performed on the test pit important places a building, such as
the location of the column.

Hand drill testing is simple and relatively easy to do. The
investigation by the hand drill is often used on construction projects
of highways, railroads apai, and terbanga field. However, this tool
can not be performed on sand soil. Hand drill can be used for the
investigation reaches a maximum depth of 10 meters.

Drill water washing is done by twisting the pipe casing. This tool is
used to retrieve disturbed samples, and can not be used on rocky
soils. Laundering investigations with essentially the same as the
drill washing, but the goal is to find a meeting between the soft soil
with soil solids. Such investigations often used on port development
projects.

Rotary drill or rotary tool often called a drill can be used on any
soil type. This tool can investigate dense and rocky soil to a depth
of 40 meters. This tool can also be used on sandy soil. The workings
of this tool that can be used by without using a pipe casing.
